Yama and the parrot

Let me share an interesting story from this morning, February 22, 2004.

I'm sure it will bring a smile to your face.

In this story, Yama, the Hindu god of death, visits Vaikuntam, the abode of Vishnu, where he encounters a parrot. Yama smiles at the parrot, prompting the bird to fear for its life. Seeking refuge, the parrot turns to Garuda, the king of birds, for help. Garuda carries the parrot thousands of miles away to a secluded cave on an island, ensuring its safety. Satisfied, Garuda returns to Vaikuntam.

Meanwhile, as Yama concludes his business and begins his journey back, he encounters Garuda and pauses to reflect. He reveals to Garuda that when he smiled at the parrot, he foresaw its fate of becoming food for a cat in a distant land. Yama marvels at the workings of destiny, acknowledging that even seemingly improbable events come to pass as ordained.
