The Well of Redemption...11.03.2024

Two draw wells in the house,

One with water on the surface, sweet, no effort.

I drink a lot everyday, but thirst remains unquenched.

The other, too deep, at what level you get water unknown.

They say water too sweet in the second one,

And you just need a drop to quench all your thirst forever.

I find water depleting too fast in the first well,

I know it won't last long.

My unlettered mother, no more, tells me to put more effort in the second well,

Dig deeper, you shall find water.

Don't give up, it is the same struggle,

To cry "water is finished" in the first well or you are ready with redemption in the second.

She sang, your nest is becoming unlivable, find your home,

This daily grind unnecessary.

The secret lies in the second well,

All the tears, like all fears, can be wiped.

Poem written by Dr.SV Prabhath

Author's Explanation

The poem delves into the metaphorical exploration of confronting fears and challenges in life through the imagery of two wells. The first well symbolizes easy, immediate gratification, but it fails to address the underlying fears and struggles. In contrast, the second well requires more effort and perseverance, yet offers the promise of overcoming fears and finding lasting solutions.

The absence of the speaker's unlettered mother adds depth to the narrative, signifying the enduring influence of her wisdom and guidance. Despite her physical absence, her teachings continue to inspire and support the speaker in their journey to confront their fears.

Ultimately, the poem underscores the importance of resilience and inner strength in navigating life's challenges. It suggests that true redemption lies not in avoiding difficulties, but in facing them with courage and perseverance.
