Shiva Answers Nanda's Prayer

This is a loose translation of a song sung by the revered Ghantasala, cherished since my childhood. I attempted this translation. Listen to Nanda's story https://youtu.be/oCGSG4ybNaA?si=JRO1KXfO6LNZ0czx And be a blessed one.

In days of old, where caste lines cruelly drawn,

Nanda, a labourer, faced tasks irrational.

From humble roots, untouchable's plight,

Master's rage set an impossible goal.

Bidden to grow crops by break of dawn,

Nanda, in shock, sought divine intervention.

To Chidambaram shrine, he went posthaste,

Priests driven by spite denied entry.

Heartbroken, Nanda collapsed right at the entrance,

Yet, Shiva, the saviour to the meek and oppressed,

Came to the rescue of the wronged,

Turned barren fields to a verdant sight.

At the grand entrance, where Nanda lay,

Shiva's grace unfolded, breaking dawn's miracles.

For when evil spreads its venomous hood,

Divine grace prevails, setting the equilibrium straight.

Nanduni charithamu..

Your translation is very good. The song is from film Jayabheri .It is an excellent song with a very high pitch at the end which ordinary can not even attempt.

Nanda, as the story goes, was from maalawaada/ maalapalli .When we listen to the song,we realise how God emerges and saves his devotees in distress. The lord listens to the prayers of his devotees always.

Nanda, like Kannappa was a strong believer of the power of his God.

Good translation of a very good song .
