The Ficus benghalensis, or Ficus indica, commonly known as the banyan tree, holds the esteemed title of the Indian national tree, even as a bonsai. Its large green leaves, adorned with yellow lines, tell tales of growth and resilience, as the curvy plant strives to expand within the confines of its pot. With each glance, a new meaning unfolds, reminiscent of the majestic banyan trees with their storied past and countless adventures. Despite its contained appearance, the bonsai exudes a sense of grandeur and wisdom, encapsulating the spirit of the mighty banyan in miniature form. This evokes fond memories of Madras, particularly the Adyar Theosophical Society, where I spent cherished moments of my childhood, surrounded by the serene presence of nature and the timeless wisdom of the banyan tree.
